The technology of harnessing heat and light from the sun, an ever constant source, is referred to as solar energy. This green energy source is being used in place of traditional methods for such practical needs as heating, lighting and electricity. At Mitlyng Electric we currently provide installation and service of two types of solar energy, Solar Hot Water systems and Photovoltaics.
Solar Hot Water Systems
There are many different variations of solar hot water systems, but the concept of each is simple; capture incoming sun radiation in-order to heat water for domestic and other uses. With proper system selection there is usually enough hot water produced to accommodate the average family.
A simplified explanation of a Solar Hot Water system can be described like this: A solar hot water system works by placing one or two solar collector panels, which resemble skylights, on the roof of your home. These collector panels have copper piping in them that contain a mixture of anti-freeze and water. The piping in the collector panels then run down into a double-walled heat exchanger within your hot water storage tank. At this point the heat that was collected is transferred to the water within the tank and the process starts over again.

Photovoltaic Energy Systems
Mitlyng Electric installs Photovoltaic energy systems, photovoltaics is essentially the converting of sun light directly into electricity. The process works by placing an array of PV cells on the roof or into the walls of your home/business and these cells then collect solar energy to generate electricity. This technology is being used in items ranging from calculators and watches to the operation of all electrical systems like lighting, cooling systems, and appliances. Photovoltaic energy systems do not produce any harmful emissions to our environment and cost little to build and operate.
